Kerith Power

I have been a songwriter-singer and guitar player since 1963. I have played as a member of the traditional dance bands Nightcap String Band and Heroines Riding Bareback at Woodford, the National Folk Festival and Port Fairy. In 1982 with feminist colleagues I organised a women’s concert in my home town of Lismore featuring Margret Roadknight and local musicians. The Lismore Women’s  Music Collective then co-ordinated four National Women’s Music Festivals biennially in Lismore NSW from1985 on. Through the festivals I established contacts all over Australia. In 1988 I sent out a national call for cassette recordings to compile the First Australian Women’s Song Book. By 1991 I had a complete draft. Life took over until 2017, when working at the Jessie Street National Women’s Library I compiled a website First Australian Woman’s Songbook  that contains images, biographies, audio samples, sheet music and background information for the fifty songwriters and songs represented. With support from Dale Dengate, in 2022 we launched the songbook with a live concert  featuring songwriters from the book  at the National Folk Festival . With Dale Dengate and Jane Ellis I also sang Don’t Be Too Polite, Girls on the 50th anniversary of Glen Tomasetti’s equal pay anthem. We adopted this title as the name of our group and continue to perform together.  Our last concert was at the Thirroul Heritage Hall and we are performing at the 2026 National Folk Festival.
My own songs number in the hundreds, many remaining undocumented. Two cassette recordings, Liberation Road and Birds of Passage, can be found by searching for Kerith Power on Soundcloud.

Pump & Pyro –
Ian Macintosh  (‘Pump’ – Melodeon and Guitar) and Tony Pyrzakowski (‘Pyro’ – Fiddle) are core members of the musical collective known variously as The Wheeze and Suck Band and Traditional Graffiti. Originating from the London area of the UK, and both also being visual artists, they have performed together for more than twenty years in those bands and as a duo.

Pump writes songs, and Pyro creates beautiful fiddle music around the songs, and traditional English tunes. Pump & Pyro have just released The Bedlam Suite, a download-only album of original and traditional music and songs inspired by some of the great creative individuals that have been incarcerated in asylums, such as the historic Bethlehem Hospital in London.
