Chamber folk duo BROKEN CREEK release their long awaited debut album ‘Small Town Anthropologies’ with special guest BRODIE BUTTONS. Both artists have their roots in bushbands and balladeers and wield banjos and fiddles to create a folkin’ good time at the Citadel.
BROKEN CREEK creates intricate folk arrangements for banjo, guitar, violin and voice. Drawing on diverse sources including union songs, Old-Time banjo tunes and Celtic fiddle traditions, they recontextualise songs, stories and musical traditions from the past to revive them for our present moment.
Broken Creek delivers an engaging live show incorporating foot percussion, energetic fiddle licks, mind-bending guitar, shruti drones and anecdotes from two music nerds who have lived in both the city and the country.
Broken Creek’s debut album SMALL TOWN ANTHROPOLOGIES includes original songs about Australian small towns, twisted fretless banjo tunes that incorporate forgotten modes, ancient protest songs and folk favourites from the Appalachian mountains.
They are joined for a night of thrilling folk with BRODIE BUTTONS, bringing his definitively Australian style to take the audience all over the country with him.
