27 July 2024 @ 7:00pm - 10:30 pm
$20/18 cash at the door

We Mavericks are masters in the art of connection; Lindsay Martin (AU) and Victoria Vigenser (NZ) interweave effortless strings, soulful vocals and driving rhythms to form a singular, intense musical voice. The duo have been called contemp-folk, alt-country and acoustic-pop, but no words capture their unbelievable musical kinship, or the deeply heartfelt way they relate to their audiences.

This troubadour couple have an inexplicable appeal that has seen them on a steep rise to countless festival billings throughout Australia and New Zealand, nominated New Zealand’s “Best Folk Artist” and “Artist of the Year” in the Australian Folk Music Awards, plus selection as showcase artists at Folk Alliance International. This year sees them touring Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and much of Europe with their highly anticipated sophomore release “Heart of Silver”.

“He has a familiar soft folk tenor. She has a strong ringing tone with muscle behind a clear crystalline voice… The violin cries for her and the harmony vocals are divine… We Mavericks are a serendipitous pairing…”  13th Floor, NZ

Cathy Rytmeister –  Cathy started playing guitar and singing at around the age of 12 and has indulged in music as a hobby ever since, alongside her day job, family, and political activism. From teenage years busking with pop songs, she developed concurrent interests in politics, the labour movement and folk music, with support and encouragement from her English and Drama teacher, Denis Kevans. Cathy has been a “folkie” since her late teens, and over the last forty years she has enjoyed playing Irish tunes with work colleagues, playing for and calling bush dances, writing and performing parodies for special occasions, and finding a happy conjunction of singing and activism with Sydney choirs Solidarity and Ecopella. Cathy also likes to hang out at folk festival singing sessions and now that she’s retired from her day job, has developed a repertoire of songs drawn from folk and singer-songwriter traditions for occasional solo performances.
