“A brilliant song writer and singer, a top musician and most of all a great person.”
“An artist of great sensitivity and strength, who makes beautiful sounds as well!!”
“I love how this song (Boom Town) is so explicitly about Newcastle; but so focused on the tiny intimate details that anyone can find a line to cling too.”
A Newcastle home-grown and internationally known award-winning singer-songwriter and fiddle player, Sue Morley, will entertain us with her collection of musicians.
Steel City Sue released her debut album ‘Boom Town’ via Bandcamp in September 2018. Boom Town is a collection of songs written in and about the coal country of Newcastle and the Hunter Valley and was recorded with US touring act Truckstop Honeymoon at their Ninth Ward Pickin’ Parlor in Lawrence Kansas USA. Steel City Sue met the troubadour songwriters Mike and Katie West of Truckstop Honeymoon at the Woodford Folk Festival in the early 2000s and was more recently encouraged by them to record some of her original songs – which became Boom Town. Mike and Katie West both play on the album. “Mike has a huge musical range, and his playing and production on the album was really sensitive to the array of feels in my songs – from the rootsy fiddle-driven ones, and the songwriter-folk tracks through to the more electric arrangements.” said Sue.
“Boom Town” won Best Song at the 2018 Australian Roots Music Awards. The album was also a finalist at the awards.
