Tony Eardley is an award-winning singer/songwriter and deft guitarist, whose poetic writing has attracted comparison to introspective artists like Nick Drake. His 2007 debut album Desire Lines garnered widespread critical acclaim, with Bruce Elder in the SMH describing it as “a remarkable CD from one of the most talented performers on the Australian folk and festival scene”.

Tony’s musical roots lie in the UK folk revival of the 1960s/70s (with a nod to the earlier tradition) with material ranging from exploration of love and loss to biting social critique and witty satire. His song Sally Cross the Water, about a woman escaping domestic violence, won the 2016 Alistair Hulett Songs for Social Justice Award, while audience favourite Portugal Beach was World/Folk runner up in the 2008 Music Oz awards. One of his earliest songs, Come Away, is a longstanding feature in the repertoire of the environmental choir Ecopella and he was also for many years a member of the enigmatic Spooky Men’s Chorale.

In 2019 Tony co-founded Hobart’s highly successful Kunanyi Folk Club. Now based in Melbourne, he is stretching out the concept of procrastination on his long-awaited second album and gets out occasionally to play at folk clubs and festivals.

The Shiny Bum Singers return to the Loaded Dog this year with two sets of songs compiled from our vast repertoire. The first set is all about the relationships between the public and: the politicians; the public servants who see themselves as bureaucrats; and the other public servants who see themselves as, well, servants of the public.  The second set progresses through a fairly standard Christmas break in the Public Service.
