Protest songwriter from the US, David Rovics will be appearing at Gumbramorra Hall, Addi Road on Friday 11th July. He’ll be joined by Kamala Emanuel for a night of music and food in support of Addi Road’s food relief program.
David Rovics is one of the great figures of modern folk and protest music. His sound and attitude suggest obvious influences like Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Phil Ochs and early Dylan, as well as drawing from a mighty stream of country folk, union songs and talking blues traditions that he has deepened thanks to inspirational musical allies like Cuba’s Silvio Rodriguez and the writings of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.
All proceeds go to Addi Road’s food programs
David’s Australian tour in July takes him and Kamala to Newcastle 10th, Katoomba 12th, Canberra 19th and Brisbane 24th.
“In Our Dreams” is David’s latest album – more songs about Gaza – is available now on Bandcamp and streamed on Spotify etc by the end of July. Here’s one track: https://drovics.podbean.com/e/you-cant-bomb-your-way-to-peace-remix/
