Melbourne’s ‘Post-modern bush band’ Bush Gothic are touring Australia with their new album ‘What Pop People Folk This Popular’. On Saturday 24th May, from 4pm, they will play at Society City, Wollongong (i.e. not at The Vault, Port Kembla as previously advertised). Come along and experience the distinctive musical talents and arrangements of this skilled trio.
Bush Gothic band leader and fiddle-singer Jenny M. Thomas, double bassist Dan Witton and drummer Chris Lewis use trad Australian songs as their source material, with musical influences ranging from minimalist electro to jazz. Are they outsiders, lurking on the cultural fringe? Or have they penetrated to the inner core of Australian identity? Performing at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals including Mona Foma, Festival # 6 (Wales), R.I.F.F (India) and Womadelaide, and multi-award-winners (Australian Folk Music 2022 Award for Best Band, Best Music Award winners at The Adelaide Fringe and FIVE STARS from the BBC Music Magazine). they have developed an international cult following amongst those who like their jazz intelligent and their folk dark.
