Following the recent announcements by the Australian Government regarding the actions and possible time frame required to contain the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), our committee has made the very hard but inevitable decision to cancel this year’s Sydney Folk Festival.
This decision has been carefully considered and made all the more difficult as this year is the 50th Anniversary of the Folk Federation of NSW and the Festival was to have been the centre piece for those celebrations. The impact of this health crisis is being hard-felt across all our folk communities; however the health and wellbeing of all involved must come first.
Depending on developments with the containment of COVID-19 over the coming months, our committee is looking into the possibility of staging a 50th Anniversary celebration towards the end of the year – perhaps a day-long event.
In the meantime, our committee is meeting via Zoom to look at ways we can support our folk communities and help build resilience while we await a post-COVID-19 world. During this time of social isolation, we will be communicating primarily by email. Remember to also check our Facebook page and the website for latest news and updates.
Thank you all for your understanding during these very uncertain times. An extra special thank you to the artists, volunteers, our venue and sound providers and committee who put their hands up to be part of the 2020 event. We look forward to seeing you all at the Sydney Folk Festival in 2021.
