CASTAGNARI EVO ACCORDION

by | Apr 6, 2025

This accordion belonged to my late husband Norm Merrigan and was purchased in 2011 direct from Castagnari in Italy to replace his Saltarelle which, as his illness progressed, was too heavy for him. Played regularly until his death in late 2018.

Top-of-the-range Castagnari diatonic button accordion with 3 rows, 33 buttons, 2 voices on the right hand, 18 bass on the left hand. Closed keyboard, solid wood box (walnut). Tuning: dry. Hand-made reeds.

The three rows are tuned C#/D/G giving him chromatic C#/D tuning used by his good friend, Irish box player, Conor Keane + a G row effectively a D/G style melodion which was the first accordion he learnt on. It’s in good condition. It’s tuned dry for Irish tunes. I get it out every so often and play a few scales and a brown jug polka (the extent of my accordion prowess) just to keep it ticking over.

Dimensions: 30cm x 17.7cm  Weight: 4.6kg Comes with a soft carry pack – back pack + handle.
