The St Andrews Day Celebration Concert

We have a really special Scottish group from Tasmania, The Stovies, who will be touring and making a debut performance in the Illawarra.

And then to support The Stovies we will have an old friend of the Illawarra Folk Club who is heading back to the UK after this concert, Doug Jenner, who has played at the club and Illawarra Folk Festival to great acclaim over the years.

The Stovies: a Tasmanian based folk trio led by charismatic Scotsman, Graeme McColgan, accompanied by two seasoned Tasmanian musicians, Neil Gray and Bob Connor, to create a dynamic blend of Scottish, Irish, and Australian folk music.

From lively Irish classics to 200 year-old heartfelt Scottish ballads, The Stovies deliver an unforgettable performance filled with infectious energy, incredible 3-part harmonies and a shared love for these rich musical traditions.

“Wildly entertaining, brimming with talent, all heart and kilt! Being in the audience at one of their gigs is like going on a journey through the Scottish landscape with yer best mate! and maybe with a scotch in hand”

Supported by: Doug Jenner

Aussie fiddle-singer Doug is best known for his renditions of wordy, humourous songs – sometimes political – and moving ballads.

A judge at the Australian Bush Band Championships in the 80s, he collaborated on several programmes for ABC radio’s Songs and Stories of Australia series. He also performed with Sydney Irish bands The Gingermen, The Irish Drivers and Claddagh.

His collaboration with Martyn Wyndham-Read began with their popular show ‘Voice of a New Nation – the life of Henry Lawson in story, recollection and song’.

“Absolutely superb!” – Peter Russell.
