Tony Burke MP – Tales from the High Stool 2RRR Radio

June 8 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Free

Pádraig Ó Cuinn hosts this program on 2RRR with interviews with people involved in local & global music. Guests are invited into a virtual ‘pub’ to sit on ‘The High Stool’, & discuss music, musical influences, & whatever they like, with their virtual ‘bar-person’. This week’s guest is the federal member Watson and shadow minister for the Arts Tony Burke MP.

As well as being the Manager of opposition business, Tony is well known for his love of music, he’s a musician and is well known for keeping musical instruments in his parliamentary office. Since the pandemic began, Tony has been up front and centre in campaigning for the performing arts sector and for those working in the “gig” economy to not be left behind and excluded from the job keeper allowance! Alas many were!

As recently as last week Tony was calling on the Morrison government to establish a national Covid-19 insurance scheme for the art and entertainment & events industry as commercial insurance is no longer available for events cancelled by the pandemic! This will greatly assist in reviving the struggling arts and entertainment industry by removing the massive financial risk from organisers in the event of a cancellation through no fault of their own! This is not unprecedented as the government has already stepped up for the film industry but at the time of going to print the performing arts sector is being left behind!

Streaming live on 2RRR (88.5MHz FM). Podcasts online after each show. Send questions for guests, suggestions for music, suitable guest etc. to Patrick.
