The Mutual Acquaintances at The Shack
March 6 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm$25
The Mutual Acquaintances – a 4-piece band with Uillean pipes, accordion, tin whistles, guitars, bass, percussion – & voices. Irish, Scottish, & Australian traditional folk, plus contemporary folk music by the band – a bunch of jigs, reels, ballads & songs that tell stories old & new. +Strangelove. A passion for South American spirit & rhythms brought the 3 members of Strangelove together with a unique mix of strings: Para-Celtic harp (Cliona Molins), ukulele (Wendy Twibill) & acoustic bass (Pierre Luniere), plus spine-chilling harmonies. Cliona (ex Folklore) has a rich knowledge of Irish music & incorporates Latin rhythms (with mentoring by such as Victor Valdes). Wendy (ex Café of the Gates of Salvation) brings exquisite singing & harmony-arranging, & has reinvented use of the ukulele in the vein of Venezuelan cuatro & vihuela mexicana. Contagious party rhythms, energy, & groove by Pierre (original cast Jesus Christ Superstar), who has recorded with an illustrious line-up incl. Johnny O’Keeffe, Wayne Gillespie, Lindsay Bjere (Tamam Shud & Punk Pop band A Portable Beach), & Jazz harmonica master Christian Marsh. Provocative originals, traditional Irish, Venezuelan & Mexican, reinterpreted with Jazz, Roots & Blues rhythms. They cover songs from Eddie Vedder (Rise), Tom Waits (Chocolate Jesus), Simon Diaz/Ry Cooder (Caballo Viejo) & Eric Bib. +Cassidy-Rae, Sydney singer songwriter who wraps beautiful vocals around party anthems to heartfelt ballads & beyond. Well received at home & overseas. Infectious energy & enthusiasm, plus international cruise-ship audiences since she last performed at The Shack. Since Covid, she has been streaming weekly to her global following. Her recent single ‘Ton Of Bricks’ has been featured on commercial & community radio nationally & internationally.
