AVANT GAGA 49: Poetry Night at Sappho

May 11 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free
The Poetry Night at Sappho returns! After more than a year in hibernation—because plague—the Poetry Night is back for its 49th AVANT GAGA (and 99th poetry night under host Toby Fitch). For this, we have invited 1st- and 2nd-place getters of the last two Overland Judith Wright Poetry Prizes, partly because last year’s iteration of this celebratory event was cancelled during lockdown, and partly because these 4 winners all happen to be NSW residents (of the other winners and shortlistees, many are interstaters or NZers, but it’s a bit tricky at present to get all involved). And so we have Sara M Saleh, Brooke Scobie, Dan Hogan and Lou Garcia-Dolnik, who will all read poems live. An open mic section will follow the guest poets—sign-up for this is on the night from 7pm. 50 people can attend this event under current COVID guidelines. Drinks and tapas can be purchased at the bar.
